Effect of various sugars and glycoproteins (ovomucoid, fetuin, mannose, galactose), and tap water as a control was tested. The results showed that agglutination occurred in all glass tubes except for those containing N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) oligomers. This indicates that Nictaba has a high specificity toward chitinous GlcNAc oligomers, as agglutination inhibition was only observed with these compound. The results confirmes that Nictaba lectin has a high specificity for GlcNAc oligomers and a reduced affinity for certain glycoproteins unless present at higher concentrations.
