Sludge Volume Index (SVI)
SVI5 and SVI30 tests measure sludge volume after 5 and 30 minutes of settling, respectively. This helps assess the settling properties of the sludge and is essential for sludge characterization. Observing sludge volume is a crucial part of SVI testing. A low sludge volume (<10 mL) suggests good settling but could also indicate insufficient biomass if volumes are too low. Repeating the test with a smaller volume (10 mL cylinder) yielded even lower sludge volume. This might indicate an issue with the sludge concentration or settling characteristics, which means I was not able to measure the SVI precisely.
